Bishop John Buckley is speaking to Neil after Pope Francis appointed a Dublin priest, Fr Fintan Gavin as the new Bishop of Cork & Ross.
Dr Buckley was 44 when he was appointed Bishop and is now preparing for retirement. Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show this morning the Bishop acknowledged the challenges the church is facing particularly in light of the abuse scandal. Bishop Buckley says the ‘church is getting its act together.’
Responding to questions on the future of the church and whether same sex unions will be celebrated in the church and women priests will be ordained the Bishop said: ‘You must have great respect for the dignity of all people … no matter what our beliefs are.’
